Maria Marstrand

Born in Espergærde / Copenhagen, Denmark

Since I produced my first oil painting in 1977 at the age of ten, I have explored art, from medieval Danish frescos to the paintings of the raw art from 1940-50s. But my art springs from many sources - especially nature. With significant focus at the sea, as one of the the main sources for me "keeping it all together," - it helps me - translating feelings into my work. I try to express redirected energy into the pieces, - making modest trance world surroundings. Making my art complete, is when and how the viewer chooses to understand or step into my work. Why that is, is because I paint my own reality, and to open up that reality even further, - I need the company or reflection from others.



Education

2003 - 2004: Art history studies at Copenhagen University

1994 - 1996: Studies with Norwegian artist Håkan Nyström

1988 - 1991: Studies at Århus Academy of Art, Denmark

1977 - 1978: First courses in oil painting, Island of Funen, Denmark
